Like this blog, this building is a work in progress, especially over the past few months. I believe it was an old cheese factory and then it sold tires. For years it was lived in, but abandoned a couple of years ago. Hopefully it will get fixed up soon.
One of these days I may run into the people who are fixing it up. I really want to talk to them about what they're doing. It would be a fascinating place to explore. Location: Northeast Wisconsin

A few weekends ago I visited Asylum Point Park. It is at the site of the former county asylum. They have a lighthouse on an island and as you can see the bridge is out. They were supposed to fix it, but COVID threw everyone's plans into turmoil. It was a nice hike and saw the old cemetery. This old cemetery contains the remains of the inmates of the asylum and their graves are marked by numbers.
Took a trip around the countryside and discovered this lovely. Perhaps at one point it was a general store. It is on a busy county road. It isn't a very welcoming place today, but I bet in the past it was a hoppin' spot! Hopefully one day it can be fixed up. With a good wifi connection, the owners could have offered this place as a "learning pod," during these COVID times.
Location is Rural Oconto County and there is a Private Property Sign in the building. Take only pictures and leave only tire tracks or footprints. For Wisconsin Teachers who have a Wisconsin History Class to take - Around the Corner with John McGivern is a fantastic series where he goes around the state visiting Wisconsin Cities. Each episode kicks off with a history of the city by John Gurda and John McGivern explores the city going into businesses and talking to the residents. Each episode concludes with a 30 clip of the mayor or city administrator talking about what makes their town so great. This is a quick worksheet that students can fill out while watching an episode of this series. I would use this series in the classroom, especially if there is a Wisconsin history class.
